You can subtract the second equation from the first:
.. (-2x +y) -(-4x +y) = (1) -(-1)
.. 2x = 2 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . simplify
.. x = 1 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . divide by 2

This corresponds to selection D) (1, 3).
