4/9 + 1/3

find the least common denominator (LCD) which is 9.

4/9 + 1 × 3/ 3 × 3     makes the denominators the same as the LCD.

4/9 + 3/9       simplify and both denominators are the same.

7/9

hope this helps, God bless!
