So i'm confused.

3a(powered 2)

a= 8

Would it be the 3*8 then powered 2 or is the powered 2 for the eight?

Use order of operations... PEMDAS - the order you should attack all math problems.

Parentheses
exponents
multiplication
division
addition
subtraction

So you have to do the exponent THEN the multiplication

3a^2 =
3*8^2 =
3 * 64 =

192
